According to new ISTAT data, 2 million households and 5.6 million individuals are in absolute poverty in our country. The data are the worst ever recorded since ISTAT began assessing this indicator in 2005.
The absolute poverty line includes people who cannot afford minimum expenses for goods and services considered essential for families: the absolute poverty line is defined according to the number and age of household members and varies by geographic area – North, Center and South – and by where one lives, whether in the center of a large city, in the suburbs or in a small town.
Against this backdrop, last year saw the birth of the “Ora Aiutiamo” food aid program for Bergamo families in need, with a special focus on those living in Val Brembana. The program, which has as its sole purpose the collection of non-perishable and essential foodstuffs, relies on the extraordinary work of our Foundation’s volunteers who have mobilized several Bergamasque schools in a gift network that has yielded important results.
In addition to being a presentation of the work done so far, the film is also a tribute to our volunteers, the institutions involved, their students, parents and school staff. To all of them goes our heartfelt thanks.
